Cast Bonding Australia
Cast Bonding Australia Pty Ltd. was established to commercialize the patented Cast Bonding process developed by the CSIRO. A team of specialist engineers have been engaged and a new fit-for-purpose manufacturing facility built in Ballarat, Australia, to allow for cost effective manufacturing of Cast Bonded wear resistant components. The business is centered around the Cast Bonding process, which enables steel components of a wide range of geometries to be protected with a very hard wear resistant overlay of alloy white iron to suit customer requirements.
Product Specification
Cast Bonding is a unique process that allows the wear resistant white iron, supported by a strong ductile backing material, to be adapted and used in high impact/high wearing applications. The bond between the two materials forms primarily in the solid state by diffusional processes following casting of the overlay onto the steel substrate.
Research & Development
Extensive research and development is undertaken on a continuing basis. This has allowed the technology to be adapted to a broad range of geometric shapes and sizes. In addition a wide range of wear and corrosion-resistant alloys have been developed and tested to provide the optimum wear and/or corrosion resistant properties. An example of this research and development is Cast Bonding Armour plate which is a unique form of wear plate offering high impact resistance and extremely hard wear deposits. The deposits are applied using the Cast Bonding process with thickness ranges from 10 to 38mm.
Competitive Advantage
Both Cast Bonded wear resistant components and Cast Bonded Armour plate offer significant opportunities for customers to make cost savings by reducing down time and extending plant running times.
Typical Users
The current customer base has been built up within Australia, however a significant number of these customers have international ties or are multinational organisations which opens up the possibility of export opportunities. These customers are predominantly involved in the mineral extraction and mineral processing. However, other niche markets are being found in a wide range of other industries including steel making and steel forming processes, carbon crushing, coke handling, valve trim & grit blasting.
